Solar Electric Grid-Tie w/Backup

Basic Idea: We install PV panels on your roof just like a grid-tie system. Instead of connecting your PV panels to your main electrical panel, we connect to a backup electrical sub-panel. This sub-panel will contain circuits that will remain on in the event of a power outage. Next, we install a small battery bank with a battery charger/inverter. This will allow the battery to power the sub-panel during a power outage and keep your important loads running.

Benefits:
PV panels provide a high return on investment
Federal and State incentives cover up to 80% of the costs including installation
PV will continue to operate and generate electricity in spite of a grid outage keeping important loads like your refrigerator up and running
Battery system is sealed with no maintenance required
Switchover to and from battery power happens automatically

During normal operations the grid-tie w/battery backup works just like a
grid-tie system.
During a power outage the battery charger/inverter will disconnect from the main electric panel and use the batteries or the PV to power the sub-panel.
The sub-panel circuits will remain on in the event of a grid failure.
During the day the sun will power the sub-panel while charging the battery with whatever is left over.
At night the batteries will power the sub-panel.
